OREANDA-NEWS. An armed group in the northeastern part of Nigeria has taken hundreds of civilians hostage.

This was reported on August 19 by Le Parisien newspaper. According to the publication, militants of the group Islamic State’s West Africa Province captured the town of Kukawa.

France-Presse informs that criminals attacked the town late in the evening on August 18 using 22 trucks. Islamists entered into battle with the military personnel who were guarding the settlement.

It is noted that the captives recently returned home from the displaced persons camps located in the capital of Borno State, Maiduguri. People fled there after a terrorist attack in November 2018.

Nigeria’s security forces are taking action to help citizens. According to journalists, the army sent fighter jets to the area of Kukawa.
