OREANDA-NEWS. A court in Saudi Arabia announced sentences for those involved in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Five defendants received 20 years in prison. Three will be held in prison for 7 to 10 years. The verdict of the court takes effect immediately. At this point, the criminal case initiated into the murder of the journalist was closed.

On October 20, 2018, Saudi Arabia confirmed the death of Khashoggi, who went missing on October 2. On that day, the man entered the building of the consulate of the kingdom in Istanbul and did not leave it.

Khashoggi was killed on the territory of the consulate. The journalist was interrogated and tortured, after which he was beheaded. In connection with this case, 18 Saudi citizens were detained, and the main aides of the crown prince were removed from their posts.

A year ago, the Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, said that responsibility for the murder of a journalist also applies to him.
