OREANDA-NEWS. The Indian strain of coronavirus in the Russian Federation makes up about 90% of all detected cases, said Alexander Gintsburg, director of the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology.

According to him, those who have been ill also need to be vaccinated in order to have high titers of antibodies in the blood, so that the virus meets with a high concentration of antibodies that will neutralize it.

"This is the peculiarity of the Indian strain, which, as it is now known, in Russia makes up about 90% of all circulating strains," Gintsburg said at a press conference at the Rossiya Segodnya news agency.

Also, the director of the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, Alexander Gintsburg, said that getting sick with COVID-19 in a mild form does not mean protecting yourself, you need to be vaccinated to stop the pandemic.

"Now we know that our country has an effective vaccine against COVID-19, this is the Sputnik V vaccine, which must be used as quickly and widely as possible in order to end the pandemic, at least on the territory of the Russian Federation, since this disease is very insidious and simple. Being ill in a mild form does not mean protecting yourself from this disease, "he said at a press conference at the Rossiya Segodnya news agency.
