OREANDA-NEWS. Israel became the first country in the world which decided to introduce a repeated nationwide quarantine due to the spread of coronavirus infection.

The restrictions will be in effect for three weeks, mainly during the autumn Jewish holidays. Citizens are prohibited from leaving their homes further than 1000 metres, with the exception of going to work, shops and pharmacies, as well as for some other reasons.

A thousand police officers will monitor compliance with the quarantine. The fine for not wearing a mask reaches 500 shekels (about 146 US dollars), for exceeding the permissible number of people in one place or leaving home 1,000 shekels.

On May 16, just two COVID-19 infections were registered in Israel. In June, the incidence began to grow, and in the middle of September it reached 6 thousand cases per day. In total, almost 177 thousand people were infected with SARS-CoV-2 in the territory of the country. 1.1 thousand died, 129 thousand patients recovered.
