OREANDA-NEWS The population of the Russian Federation on October 1, 2021, according to preliminary results of the census, amounted to 147 million people, said the head of Rosstat Pavel Malkov. According to him, quoted by RIA Novosti, the final data on this indicator will be published in May. «Now we can say that as of October 1 last year, about 147 million people permanently lived in the country», Malkov said.

The population census was held in Russia from October 15 to December 20 last year. President Vladimir Putin also took part in it. He recorded information about himself on the portal of public services and urged citizens to follow his example. On November 14, Deputy head of Rosstat Pavel Smelov said that, according to preliminary estimates, «the number of correspondents was more than 100%».

Malkov confirmed that Rosstat had indeed collected information about more than 100% of those who had corresponded, explaining that the data came from four sources at once — from scribes, from the portal of public services, questionnaires at sensitive facilities and from administrative data. According to him, some of the census participants reported the data to the census taker and simultaneously participated in the census on the public services portal. It is also common to duplicate census forms and cases when parents rewrite children registered in the apartment who have moved out a long time ago.
