OREANDA-NEWS The Iron Curtain between Russia and the West is already descending, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"As for the Iron Curtain, I agree with Vladimir Vladimirovich [Makei, head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry]: it is already descending. Let them [Western countries] just be careful not to have anything pinched. But this process has been launched", - Lavrov said at a press conference after the talks with Makei on Thursday, June 30.

According to Lavrov, relations between Russia and the EU, in fact, do not exist since 2014. "[EU] has destroyed all the mechanisms created between us and the Europen Union. Among other things, I mean the summits that took place twice a year, and the meetings of the Russian government and the European Commission, and the common spaces along which the four road maps were built, twenty sectoral dialogues, a visa-free dialogue... All this was brought down in an instant", the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry added.

"There is nothing surprising in the fact that now these relations do not exist. But we never close. I will only say that from now on we will not trust either the Americans or the EU, we will do everything necessary not to depend on them in critically important industries", Lavrov said.

"When and if this obsession with their own greatness is gone, and they turn to us with some kind of proposal, we will look at this proposal attentively. And of course, we will not act in the interest of their desires only. If it comes to dialogue we will demand equality and focus on balancing the interests of all participants", the politician concluded.
