OREANDA-NEWS. The Government of National Accord of Libya formally requested Turkey for military support.

The first who reported of this were the journalists of Reuters agency, citing informed sources. According to them, “air, ground and sea” military support was asked to fend off an offensive of eastern forces of Khalifa Haftar to take the capital Tripoli.

Later, the head of the Russian contact group on the intra-Libyan settlement Lev Dengov confirmed this information, as RIA Novosti news agency reported.

According to Al-Hadath TV channel, the Government of National Accord asked the Turkish authorities for an air defense system. In addition, they want the Turkish air force to provide air cover for the Libyan ground forces.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared that the answer for such requests will be given in January after the decision of national parliament.
