OREANDA-NEWS. Life expectancy in Russia in 2019 reached a historic record high level of 73.4 years. This was reported by the Ministry of Health of the country on April 21.

The agency linked the increase in life expectancy with a decrease in mortality of the working-age population: by 3.5 % among men and 2.1 % among women. Thus, last year Russia managed to save additional 13.6 thousand lives of able-bodied citizens, the Ministry explained.

At the end of October 2019, the then Minister of Health of Russia, Veronika Skvortsova announced that the life expectancy of the country’s citizens increased by 0.6 years, reaching a maximum of 73.5 years. According to her, the average life expectancy for eight months of that year has grown to 73.6 years.
