OREANDA-NEWS. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has confirmed that the directors of all sugar factories in the country, whose disappearance was reported by Belarusian media in late January, were detained by the State Security Committee. The president blamed the sale of sugar to Russia “at bargain prices” against the heads of enterprises.

The President noted that the security services had been tracking actions for a long time and promised that in the near future the KGB would report in detail on the investigation of the case. Lukashenko himself was most indignant at the fact that part of the sugar sold for a pittance in Russia eventually entered the Belarusian market, but at an increased price.

Lukashenko also confirmed that it was by his order that the plane that had already left its airspace was returned to Belarus, in which one of the suspects left the country. According to the Belarusian Ministry, from January to November 2019, Belarus exported 252 thousand tons of sugar totaling $ 102.2 million. In 2018, the country earned $ 391 million from sugar exports in the same period.
