OREANDA-NEWS. TASS news agency reports, citing a statement of a source in the NATO that the military bloc will refuse to give support to Turkey in the event of conducting operation in the Syrian governorate of Idlib. In addition, the alliance does not consider the deaths of the Turkish servicemen in Idlib as a reason for activating an article on collective defense.

“NATO countries will not support the activation of the Fifth article due to the deaths of the Turkish military men in Idlib in early February. NATO is not considering the possibility of providing military assistance to Turkey in the event of operations in this region,” a journalists’ interlocutor stated.

The Article 5 of the NATO Charter provides that an armed attack on one or more of the member states of the alliance can be considered as an attack on them as a whole, and they have the right to collective defense.
