OREANDA-NEWS. Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev arrived in Tel Aviv for talks with colleagues from the United States and Israel. Contacts of the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation with his foreign counterparts will be held in Jerusalem. On Monday, he has scheduled bilateral meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security John Bolton and Head of the National Security Council of Israel Meir Ben-Shabbat.

As Patrushev told reporters earlier, the main topic of his bilateral and trilateral meetings with Bolton and Meier Ben-Shabbat will be the situation in Syria.

The secretary of the Russian Security Council emphasized that the Russian side intends to convey to its colleagues from Israel and the United States also the position of Iran on the Syrian settlement, since it is this country that has made a significant contribution to the fight against terrorism in Syria. It is noteworthy that these words of Patrushev sounded just at the height of a sharp aggravation of relations between Washington and Tehran, which many politicians rated as being on the verge of war.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who initiated these tripartite talks, called the upcoming meeting "unprecedented and historic". According to him, the trilateral talks will take place on Tuesday. He also recalled the words of US President Donald Trump that the US Army is "ready for dispatch". Netanyahu, in turn, noted that Tehran’s aggressive policy intensified immediately after the conclusion of the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan on the Iranian nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions against that country.
