OREANDA-NEWS. In the United States, the military has successfully tested hypersonic jet-powered cruise missiles. This was reported by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) of the US Department.

“DARPA and the US Air Force today announced successful completion of captive carry tests of two variants of the Hypersonic Air-breathing Weapon Concept (HAWC) and are ready to proceed to first free-flight testing within the calendar year,” the message posted by the DARPA on Twitter reads.

In addition, the Pentagon clarified that its specialists are developing technologies to create effective air-launched hypersonic cruise missiles.

On July 21, Marshall Billingslea, US Special Presidential Envoy for Arms Control, said that Washington intends to target its hypersonic weapons systems being created primarily in the Asia-Pacific region.
