OREANDA-NEWS. The organizers of the Munich Security Conference proposed a new initiative to resolve the situation in the Donbass.

The plan is entitled Twelve Steps toward Greater Security in Ukraine and the Euro-Atlantic Region. It was offered by the Euro-Atlantic Security Leadership Group, which includes Chairman of the Munich Security Conference Wolfgang Ischinger, former British Secretary of Defense Desmond Browne, former US Senator Sam Nunn, former US Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz, and former Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov. The document was signed by more than 40 experts in the sphere of international security.

According to the plan, it is proposed to resolve the crisis in the Donbass by the following: restoring the work of the Joint Center for Control and Coordination; creation of a group for negotiation between the military departments in the Normandy format; improving and expanding freedom of movement; search for the missing people; mine clearance; economic recovery of Donbass; creation of a free trade zone; easing anti-Russian sanctions; elimination of radioactive threats; establishing dialogue on mutual security between Euro-Atlantic states; supporting and defining areas of interaction between the EU and Russia; launching a new dialogue on national identity in Ukraine.
