OREANDA-NEWS. An action in support of the Belarusian presidential candidate Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya took place in Minsk.

According to the human rights center Viasna, more than 63 thousand people attended the rally. The republic’s Interior Ministry did not report on the number of participants. The action took place with enhanced security measures.

Tsikhanouskaya is the only opposition candidate registered for the presidential elections in Belarus. At the end of July, it became known about the creation of the joint headquarters of the Belarusian opposition. It includes Tsikhanouskaya, as well as heads of the headquarters of unregistered candidates: Viktar Babaryka and Valery Tsepkalo.

In the area of the rally, there were problems with mobile communication and the Internet. Earlier, the Belarusian authorities told candidates about the possibility of restricting the Internet in the country, if they see a threat to the country’s security.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus warned of increased security measures at the rally. Viasna representatives clarified that next to the park where the action took place, there were several dozen buses with police officers. All participants in the rally passed through checkpoints.
