OREANDA-NEWS. March 2, 2009. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Cristian Diaconescu, was in Russia on February 27 on a visit.

During the talks between the head of the Romanian foreign affairs agency and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, mutual interest was expressed in the onward development of Russian-Romanian ties along with stating the trend towards more intense bilateral political dialogue and examining the possibilities to further expand mutually advantageous cooperation in trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian and other areas and to streamline the juridical base of relations.

The sides held an exchange of views on a number of pressing international problems, particularly themes related to bolstering stability and security in the pan-European space and Russian relations with the European Union and NATO. Questions of Black Sea cooperation and the situation in the Balkans and Transnistria also were discussed.

An appearance by the Romanian minister at the MFA Diplomatic Academy took place as part of the program of the visit.
