OREANDA-NEWS. June 30, 2010. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Officer of the Division for Economic and Social of the UN Secretariat Alexey Tikhomirov in his residence at the Serdar Hotel.

Thanking for the heartfelt, cordial welcome and traditional hospitality extended in the Turkmen lad, the guest cordially congratulated Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on his birthday and expressed the best wishes of happiness, wellbeing and further achieving in implementing the fundamental reforms launched on his initiative in all critical spheres of the life of the Turkmen state.

Expressing gratitude for the kind words, the Turkmen leader noted that he was very glad to greet again the UN high-ranking official who invaluably contributed to strengthening and expanding the constructive dialogue between Turkmenistan and this largest international organisation.

Focusing on the specific interest of the world community in independent neutral Turkmenistan that effectively put its own, unique model for national development in action, the guest underscored the significance of the Turkmen leader’s conceptual article “Turkmenistan’s Economic Strategy: with the people, for the people” that clearly defined the national development priorities for the next few years. It was noted that this rigorously substantiated, well-reasoned work translated in Russian, English, Arabic, Chinese and many other languages of the world had immediately drawn a wide response in the political and business circles of the planet and became a key to understanding of the national idea of new Revival and primary tasks se to the modern Turkmen society resolutely advancing along the path of progressive reforms and democratic changes clearly indicated by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The programme of Turkmenistan’s social-economic development for the period till 2030 and reforms implemented in its framework – all this had led Turkmenistan to a new trajectory of substantial economic growth and integrated social development, A. Tikhomirov said emphasizing that due to the measures taken under the leadership of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Turkmenistan had managed to escape the worst consequences of the global financial crisis.

During the meeting the sides discussed various aspects as well as the prospects for multidimensional cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations that acted as dependable and long-term partners in achieving the Millennium Development Goals that would be the focus of the regular session of the UN General Assembly, which would take place this autumn with the participation of Turkmenistan.

The guest said that the Department of Social and Economic Affairs had started drafting the assistance framework for the Government of Turkmenistan that envisaged in particular the specific programme for cooperation in retraining personnel, elaborating regulatory documents, etc.
