OREANDA-NEWS. July 06, 2010. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Alexei Tikhomirov, Interregional Adviser of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

Greeting the leader of the Turkmen state, the guest thanked Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the opportunity to discuss the priority aspects of Turkmenistan-UN partnership that had gained new dynamics and intensively developed in the whole spectrum of fields in recent years during a personal meeting.

Pursuing the policy of wide international cooperation based on the principles of positive neutrality, Turkmenistan attached paramount significance to the constructive dialogue with the United Nations Organization aimed at maintaining global peace, security and wellbeing, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasizes noting that a number of successful joint projects were in assets of this dialogue.

Focusing with satisfaction on the high dynamics of bilateral cooperation, the Turkmen leader and his guest exchanged views on the key aspects of Turkmenistan-UN cooperation built on a long-term basis. The lively discussion focused in particular on the prospects for partnership for innovative information and communication technologies that present-day Turkmenistan intended to introduce widely.

During the meeting the guest emphasized on the significance of large-scale reforms launched in all spheres of life of the Turkmen state and society that had facilitated social and economic growth and laid the reliable foundation for the progress of the country for many years to come. Alexei Tikhomirov said that this was proved by Turkmenistan’s economic achievements in the first half year that were very positive. The delegation of the International Monetary Fund that had recently visited Ashgabat highly evaluated Turkmenistan’s economic development. In this context it was noted that the strategy of fundamental reforms implemented under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov opened up the vast opportunities for intensifying traditional cooperation in a wide spectrum of fields.

In conclusion the leader of the Turkmen state and the UN high-ranking official expressed belief that long-term Turkmenistan-United Nations partnership would be successfully maintained further in the interests of peace and sustainable development in the region and on the planet.
