OREANDA-NEWS. New sanctions against Russia after Aleksey Navalny’s poisoning are planned to be limited by a ban on entry and freezing the assets of Russian officials. This was reported by Bloomberg agency with reference to sources.

The leadership of the European Union, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, considers that the Russian authorities are responsible for the use of a poison from Novichok group against Navalny, which violates the norms of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

In addition, Berlin have other claims to Moscow, including cyber attacks on the authorities (an attempt to hack into the Bundestag systems in 2015) and the murder of Chechen militant Zelimkhan Khangoshvili in Berlin in 2019, which, according to the German authorities, are also backed by Russian special services. Moscow denies any involvement in these incidents.

Despite this, Germany is not planning to impose sanctions against the gas pipeline Nord Stream 2, Bloomberg clarifies.
