OREANDA-NEWS. Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said that Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a conversation with him, announced his intention to create a commission to investigate the circumstances of the incident with Aleksey Navalny.

“President Putin assured me that Russia intends to clarify what happened, saying that he intended to establish a commission of inquiry, and also expressed his willingness to work with the German authorities,” Conte said in an interview with Il Foglio, published on September 10.

The Prime Minister stressed that he considers cooperation between Russia and the European Union in the investigation of the alleged poisoning of Navalny important. In his opinion, such interaction will help prevent negative consequences for relations between the Russian Federation and the EU. “Cooperation is the best way to avoid negative consequences of this dramatic incident on the relations between the EU and Russia,” Conte said.
