OREANDA-NEWS. RIA Novosti news agency reported that the parliament of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) adopted a law establishing the borders of the territory within the Donetsk Region. It was announced on November 29 by the Chairman of the People’s Council of the DPR Volodymyr Bidyovka.

“In this law, people living in the territory temporarily controlled by Ukraine are not forgotten. The border is established by the territory of the Donetsk Region, as it was in 2014. It provides that until the dispute between Ukraine and the DPR is settled, the border will go along the line of contact,” the politician said. Bidyovka also noted that the law does not contradict the Minsk agreements.

The document was considered by the DPR parliament at the regular plenary meeting on Friday. The law on the state border will come into force after it is signed by the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin and will be published on the website of the People’s Council.

Political analyst Vladimir Kornilov, commenting on adopting this law, confirmed that it does not contradict the Minsk agreements, since they do not establish the boundaries of the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics. He pointed out that in the Declaration on the Proclamation of the DPR, the borders of the republic were initially fixed in the administrative borders of the former Donetsk Region of Ukraine. Thus, the initiative just legalized the norm, which actually existed from the first day of the existing of the republic.

On November 27, the authorities of Ukraine and the DPR began discussing the special status of the Donbass. The day before, the deputy of Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Viktor Medvedchuk announced that he would also discuss this issue at the upcoming meeting of the leaders of the “Normandy Four” (Ukraine, Germany, France, Russia).
