OREANDA-NEWS. President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said that Russian military attacked an opposition training camp in the Syrian governorate of Idlib. “The Russian attack on the opposition training camp in the Idlib region indicates a lack of desire for sustainable peace and tranquility there,” the politician stated during a speech to the parliamentary faction of the ruling Justice and Development Party.

Earlier, the Syrian newspaper Al-Watan, citing sources in the Ministry of Health in Idlib, reported that as a result of a strike by the Russian Aerospace Forces on a terrorist training camp in Idlib, more than 40 militants were killed and at least 60 were wounded.

Idlib remains to be the only governorate of Syria, a significant part of which is still controlled by gangs. In 2017, a northern de-escalation zone was created there. There are observation posts of the Turkish army in the region; in accordance with the Russian–Turkish agreements, the military of the two countries are conducting joint patrolling in Idlib.
