OREANDA-NEWS. The European Union does not consider the inauguration of Alexander Lukashenko to be legitimate. This was stated by EU High Representative, Josep Borrell.

The politician said that Brussels reaffirms that the presidential elections of August 9 in Belarus were neither free nor fair. The EU does not recognize their results, which were falsified. Proceeding from this, the so-called inauguration on September 23, 2020 and the new presidential mandate, which Lukashenko claims, are deprived of any democratic legitimacy, Borrell explained.

The EU High Representative stressed that the inauguration is contrary to the will of a significant part of the Belarusian people and warned about a possible deepening of the political crisis. According to him, the European Union remains to be convinced that a comprehensive national dialogue and a positive response to the people’s demand for new democratic elections are the only way out of the political crisis in Belarus.

Lukashenko is not recognized as the legitimate president in the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, Slovakia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia.
