European Commission Accused Russia and China of Misinformation during the Pandemic
OREANDA-NEWS. The European Commission claims that Russia and China have participated in misinformation campaigns against EU countries since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.
This is said in a statement released on June 10 in Brussels. The authors of the document point out that “foreign actors and certain third countries, in particular Russia and China, have engaged in targeted influence operations and disinformation campaigns around COVID-19.“ Vera Jourova, Vice President of the Commission for Values and Transparency said that they have clear evidence to make such statements.
In addition, the EC document emphasizes that Brussels, in the fight against disinformation, has denied the myths of coronavirus on the Internet that have been viewed millions of times. “The Commission has been rebutting myths around the coronavirus, which have been viewed more than 7 million times. The European External Action Service, together with the Commission, enhanced strategic communication and public diplomacy in third countries, including the EU’s neighbourhood,” the statement reads.
