OREANDA-NEWS. Member of the European Parliament from the Netherlands, Robert Roos, expressed concern that major technology companies such as Facebook, Twitter and Google are endangering free speech by regulating their platforms. This is stated in the request of the parliamentarian sent to the European Commission.

Citing data from published reports, Roos noted that using artificial intelligence and algorithms, these companies track and control the content that users see. In this context, the politician drew attention to the actions of Facebook and Twitter before and after the presidential election in the United States.

Most of these platforms are not regulated by law, since they are not public forums, media or publishers, the deputy's appeal says. In this regard, Roos asked what measures the European Commission intends to take because of the fact that online platforms increasingly using artificial intelligence to combat disinformation and hate speech.
