OREANDA-NEWS. The authorities of the European Union are considering initiating a legal action against London in connection with a new UK domestic market bill that violates a bilateral agreement on the terms of its withdrawal from the community. This was reported on September 10 by the newspaper Financial Times, journalists of which read the EU analytical document.

According to its authors, such steps by the United Kingdom constitute a clear violation of the main provisions of the Northern Ireland protocol, agreed in the framework of last year’s deal with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Undermining commitments will open the way for the remedies available under the withdrawal agreement, the document says. Among the possible options for action is the initiation of a case in the European Court of Justice. Alternatively, the EU may start a dispute resolution process which could ultimately lead to sanctions, Financial Times reports.
