OREANDA-NEWS. Tbilisi recalled the ambassador from Kiev after the former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili was appointed a head of the executive committee for reforming of Ukraine.

This was announced by Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani. “The appointment of a person who has been convicted and wanted in Georgia by our strategic partner became the reason for the decision to withdraw the Georgian ambassador to Ukraine Teimuraz Sharashenidze for consultations,” Zalkaliani said. At the same time, he added that Georgia does not consider the issue of breaking off diplomatic relations or revising its strategic partnership with Ukraine.

The decree of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the appointment of Saakashvili was published on May 7.

Saakashvili left Georgia in 2013, immediately after the inauguration of President Giorgi Margvelashvili. Several criminal cases were brought against former head of state. Later, Saakashvili was sentenced in absentia to prison terms.
