OREANDA-NEWS. The German government has begun preparations for a response in the event of the implementation of threats of US administration to stop the building of the gas pipeline Nord Stream 2.

According to Bloomberg agency, citing two unnamed officials, German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s cabinet is considering coordinated action of the European Union. Journalists’ interlocutors said that the new sanctions imposed by the United States will be a direct intervention in the affairs of the Union, so the reaction will be collective.

Earlier, the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy pointed out that American sanctions against Nord Stream 2 could harm European companies, banks and government agencies.

The construction of Nord Stream 2 caused a confrontation between Washington and Europe due to the position of the USA, opposing creating gas pipeline because of the desire to supply liquefied natural gas to European countries.
