OREANDA-NEWSFormer President of the USSR, former Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee and former Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev believes that the greatest danger in the world at present is the neglect of international law and the militarization of world politics. He spoke about this in an interview with a Russian newspaper.

In his opinion, disputes and conflicts between states should be resolved peacefully at the negotiating table. "And what is the matter? Ultimatums, interference, military interventions. All this is bypassing the UN. Agreements and international mechanisms are collapsing. The USA is especially different in this, they are leading, they set a bad example for others", the ex-president said.

Gorbachev cited as an example the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles. “At us, they liked to criticize him at different levels, but the US president announced the withdrawal from the agreement, and suddenly it turned out that this agreement is the most important pillar of strategic stability.
