OREANDA-NEWS. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas reported that the commander of the Libyan National Army, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, agreed to maintain a ceasefire in the country.

“He agreed to observe a truce, despite he did not sign an armistice agreement earlier this week in Moscow," Maas said after talks with Haftar in the Libyan city of Benghazi.

Maas also said that Haftar is willing to participate in the conference on Libya, which will be held on January 19 in Berlin. Maas' words are quoted on the Twitter page of the German Foreign Office.

At the negotiations in Libya in Moscow, Haftar did not sign a document on a ceasefire prepared with the participation of Russia and Turkey. The media reported that he did not like some formulations. The Russian Ministry of Defense specified that Haftar did not completely refuse to sign the agreement, but took a pause for a couple of days to discuss the document with the allied tribes.
