OREANDA-NEWS. The number of people detained by law enforcement officers during protest actions in Belarus last Sunday was 1,127 people. This was reported on November 16 on the website of the human rights center Viasna. The day before, the center informed about more than 600 detainees.

Most of the arrests took place in Minsk, several cases were in Novogrudok, Bobruisk, Vitebsk, Gomel and Svetlogorsk.

On November 15, the Belarusian security forces carried out mass arrests on the so called Change Square on Chervyakov Street in Minsk, where protesters gathered to honour the memory of Roman Bondarenko, who died on November 12. To disperse the protesters, officers used tear gas and stun grenades. The republic’s Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed this information. On the same day, it became known about the detention of several Russian journalists during the protests in Minsk, later they were released.
