OREANDA-NEWS. The verdict of a 54-year-old man who was accused of insulting government officials was announced in Minsk, the Prosecutor General's Office reports. On March 16, the accused posted insulting comments to Alexander Lukashenko and other officials in one of the Telegram channels. The man has been suffering from a mental disorder since 2001. According to experts, at the time of writing the comments, he could not be aware of the public danger of his actions and lead them.

The court of the Frunzensky district of Minsk appointed the Minsk resident compulsory treatment in a psychiatric hospital with routine supervision. The court's decision has not entered into legal force and can be appealed.

Earlier it was reported that the International non-profit organization CIVICUS has worsened the rating of Belarus in terms of civil liberties. Its assessment, as follows from the annual report of the organization, published on Wednesday, December 8, was lowered from «depressed» to «closed».
