OREANDA-NEWS Introducing criminal penalties for domestic violence will not solve the problem. This was reported to journalists on July 25 by Pavel Krasheninnikov, head of the State Duma Committee on Legislation and State Construction (United Russia).

“I think that we have always had domestic violence, we simply began to pay more attention,” Krasheninnikov said, adding that the problem always existed, but now more information about specific cases has begun to appear.

At the same time, the head of the committee is sure that simply tightening the criminal punishment cannot solve the problem.

“Only by criminal measures nothing can be solved ... Here it is necessary to solve not only the criminalization or decriminalization of some problems, but it is necessary to solve problems from the point of view of family protection,” Krasheninnikov noted.

According to him, the State Duma today is discussing a bill that would have a comprehensive solution to the problem - not only amendments to the Criminal Code, but also possible changes to the Family Code, the law on trusteeship and other laws of the Russian Federation.
