Japan Made Representations to Russia because of Geological Exploration near the Kuril Islands
OREANDA-NEWS. Japan made representations to the Russian Federation because of geological exploration in the Sea of Okhotsk, including the area of the southern Kuril Islands.
This was announced by Chief Cabinet Secretary, Yoshihide Suga. The recording of his speech is published on the website of the Japanese government. According to him, Tokyo is observing the actions of Russia, which are not consistent in the position of Japan. “We sent a message to Russia, saying that this does not coincide with the position of our country,” Suga said.
The politician noted that the issue of ownership of the Kuril Islands is very important for Tokyo, and the government intends to continue negotiations with Russia on this issue.
The Russian Embassy in Japan confirmed the fact of receiving an appeal from Tokyo. “The fact of the appeal was reported to Moscow. A clarification of the real situation is underway,” the diplomatic mission said.
