OREANDA-NEWS. Dmitry Peskov, the Press Secretary for the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, spoke about the difference in approaches to the situation in the Donbass of the former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and current national leader Volodymyr Zelensky.

“It is not the business of Moscow to make a difference in this or that way, although there is certain difference in approaches. One president started the war, the cornerstone of the new president’s election promises was the end of the war. And we hope that all this will be realized. We hope that Kiev will go its most part of the way in terms of implementing the Minsk Agreements,” Peskov said.

As the representative of the Kremlin emphasized, the main thing for Ukraine is fulfilling “its obligations under the Minsk Agreements regarding the entire range of measures.”

Peskov also noted that it is necessary to study in detail the draft law on decentralization, which Zelensky introduced to the Verkhovna Rada. The document proposes to change the administrative-territorial structure of the country and introduce the position of the prefect. The bill does not say anything about special status of the Donbass. The Kremlin spokesman said that the document should be “analyzed carefully” and checked for compliance with the Minsk Agreements and “Steinmeier formula.”

The settlement of the conflict in Donbass was discussed at the summit of the leaders of the “Normandy Four” (Russia, Ukraine, France, Germany) held on December 9 in Paris for the first time since 2016. Moscow and Kiev could not reach consensus. The next meeting will take place in four months.
