OREANDA-NEWS. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda claimed that Russia remains to be the most serious long-term threat to North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and the passivity of Western countries regarding Moscow aggravates Russian aggression.

“Inviting Russia to become a part of a common geopolitical space would be a strategic mistake,” the politician stated at a meeting of the foreign ministers of Bucharest Nine in Vilnius on March 10. Nauseda urged not to back down from the principles on which the security of Europe and North America is based. According to him, Russia “made a conscious choice and seeks to destroy the established world order.” The West should “demand a report from Russia,” the President concluded.

The Bucharest Nine includes Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia. It was created in 2015 against the backdrop of a crisis in relations between Russia and NATO.
