OREANDA-NEWS. Prime Minister of Lithuania, Saulius Skvernelis, said that Vilnius promises to adequately respond in case Belarus closes the common border. “So far there is no decision, we have heard more than one loud statement from Belarus, aimed primarily at domestic policy. If they take such steps, there will be an adequate answer,” the politician explained.

According to the Prime Minister, now the freight transport normally runs in both directions. If the Belarusian side closes the border, trucks from Minsk will not be able to pass through Lithuania and Poland, he added. Such a step is fraught with serious losses for the Belarusian economy. “The economy of Belarus, which is seriously ill, will receive another blow,” Skvernalis said. He noted that “in any case, such decisions first of all hit and affect the economy of Belarus and its inhabitants.” The head of Lithuanian government also stressed that Vilnius does not interfere in the internal affairs of the neighboring country.
