OREANDA-NEWS. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko could become a mediator in the dialogue between French leader Emmanuel Macron and Muslims. He stated this at a meeting with Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl Benjamin. “Maybe he just needs mediation between him and the Muslims? I can help him here,” the politician said, noting that he has “very good relations” with Muslims.

According to the Belarusian president, “interfering with the feelings of believers” is unacceptable. "We will never allow ourselves to declare what the French president recently began to declare about freedom of speech and religious feelings. What will it give you in the country, when you start criticizing Muslims?” Lukashenko added.

The head of state also noted that Muslims “never created problems” in Belarus. “I often say that Muslims supported the authorities and me as president by almost 100 % in all elections,” he said.
