OREANDA-NEWS. Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel held a telephone conversation with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. During the conversation, she declined an offer to work in the structure of the organization, the DPA agency reports with reference to the bureau of the former head of government. «Merkel had a telephone conversation with the Secretary General on this topic, thanked him, but said she would not accept the offer», the statement said.

Earlier, Guterres invited Merkel to head a high-level advisory body to the UN on global public goods that benefit humanity. Global public goods in the UN are global health, science, peace, nature protection and the world economy. At the same time, the organization believed that the former German Chancellor was unlikely to give a positive answer.

Merkel served as Federal Chancellor of Germany from November 22, 2005 to December 8, 2021. She is the first woman in this post and the third longest-serving in German history. After retiring, the former German Chancellor plans to write an autobiography in which she will talk about her political decisions. At the same time, the book will not describe Merkel's entire life.
