OREANDA-NEWS. Deputies of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia have ratified the agreement on the country’s accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. 114 out of 120 parliamentarians voted in favor of the initiative.

“I thank all the deputies, who were aware of the historical responsibility that they bear, for their courage to make decisions that change the future. Our place is in the EU and the NATO!” the head of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia Zoran Zaev wrote on Twitter.

On April 3, US Permanent Representative to NATO Kay Bailey Hutchinson declared that the United States was hoping that North Macedonia joins the alliance in the autumn of 2019.

On May 12, the new President of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski at the inauguration ceremony called the country’s membership in NATO and negotiations on EU accession his main tasks.
