OREANDA-NEWS. The American authorities have not yet resolved the issue of recognizing opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya as president of Belarus. This was declared by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during an interview with the television channel Fox News.

“Yeah, we haven’t considered all things yet. We’re still working our way through the process. […] We’re looking at the tools that will best deliver the outcomes that the people of Belarus are demanding, not just in Minsk but indeed all across the country,” the politician said, answering the question about Tsikhanouskaya’s legitimacy. However, Pompeo recalled that the American authorities announced that the presidential election in Belarus was rigged within days after its completion.

Reuters news agency, citing several sources, wrote that Washington is not going to impose sanctions on Minsk and will not join the restrictions that Great Britain and Canada had previously introduced.
