OREANDA-NEWS. The President of Abkhazia, Raul Khadjimba, called on the citizens of the republic to calm and asked not to succumb to provocations in connection with the protests in the town of Sukhumi.

“In this difficult situation, we must remain calm and not jeopardize the existence of our state,” the politician’s statement published on the official website says. “Being a guarantor of the Constitution, I have given all the necessary instructions to prevent the development of the situation outside the legal framework,” he added.

Khadjimba noted that the republic’s security services were transferred to an intensified regime, and if necessary, a state of emergency may be introduced. According to the president, this scenario was discussed at a meeting of the Security Council of Abkhazia.
