OREANDA-NEWS. President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov decided to resign. This was reported by the press service of the head of state.

“I do not hold on to power. I do not want to remain in the history of Kyrgyzstan as the president who shed blood and shot at his own citizens,” Jeenbekov said, addressing the nation. The politician also called on the new Prime Minister Sadyr Japarov and other politicians to withdraw their supporters from Bishkek streets and “return a peaceful life,” stressing that “no power is worth the integrity of our state and harmony in society.”

According to Sputnik Kyrgyzstan, protesters who gathered in the morning in the republic’s capital greeted the news of Jeenbekov’s resignation with joyful shouts. After that, they put forward new demands on the dissolution of the national parliament and resignation of its speaker Kanatbek Isayev, who has now received the presidential powers.
