OREANDA-NEWS Vladimir Putin believes that Russia should not aggravate the already complicated relations with Georgia and impose anti-Georgian sanctions. The president adheres to this position “precisely out of respect for the people”, which opposes all sorts of provocations, including the insulting treatment of Georgian journalist Georgy Gabunia.

He added that because of one person, many Georgian citizens, who are in favor of improving relations between Russia and Georgia, are suffering. The president also said that he would not complicate relations between the countries "for the sake of these people, for the sake of restoring full-fledged relations between Russia and Georgia."

He recalled that during the collapse of the Russian Empire during the First World War, Georgia attempted to take over Abkhazia, an independent Georgian state was formed.
