OREANDA-NEWS. The Russian Federation opposes to the introduction of a no-fly zone over Libya.

This was stated by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov after the talks with his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif. Russian diplomat specified that such proposals bring up “not a very pleasant association” of Moscow. According to him, only the Libyan people can agree on how to overcome the internal crisis. “As for idea of declaring a no-fly zone over Libya, this is a very bad association… because NATO began to bomb Libya after the UN Security Council made exactly the same decision – to declare a no-fly zone over Libya,” Lavrov explained.

Earlier, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said that the introduction of a no-fly zone in Libya can lead to a cessation of hostilities in the country.
