OREANDA-NEWS. The decision to increase the child care allowance was proposed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
At the moment, the monthly payment to mothers is 50 rubles. The rule was established 25 years ago as temporary compensation,
but remained in the law. This amount has not been indexed since 1994.
"More than half of large families in all regions , according to official data, are below the poverty line, and the income of three-quarters of families with children is less than two subsistence minima of able-bodied citizens," Medvedev said. The government plans to introduce an initiative to significantly increase the allowance to the head of state.
"The proposal is to set these compensation payments for a child from 1.5 to 3 years in the amount of the child's subsistence minimum in the region, and for those families whose income is below the established level," the Prime Minister said.
