OREANDA-NEWS. The Russian Federation has never used the issue of gas transit and the supply of energy resources as a weapon and does not intend to do so, said the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

"Russia has never used energy supplies or the transit issue as a weapon and does not intend to do so in the future," she said during a briefing on Thursday. According to her, the Russian Federation has consistently advocated the depoliticization of energy cooperation.

"We never had intentions not to supply gas to Ukraine, through Ukraine. This issue is of a purely commercial nature, it is the prerogative of the relevant economic entities," Zakharova added.

The deal between the United States and Germany on Nord Stream 2 is in the interests of Ukraine, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said at the annual big summer press conference, in which she is participating this year for the 16th time.

"This agreement, from my point of view, is good for Ukraine as well," said Merkel, commenting on the agreement with Washington.

Nord Stream 2 will soon start working, the United States will not be able to disrupt the implementation of the project, since it meets all international standards and the EU's green climate agenda, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

"Despite attempts to politicize a project beneficial for the Europeans, disrupting its implementation in its own geopolitical and economic interests, which Washington is actively pursuing, Nord Stream 2 will soon come into operation," Zakharova said at a briefing on Thursday.

She noted that the project "meets the norms of international law, as well as the regulatory requirements of the EU and the laws of the coastal states, meets, among other things, the green climate agenda" of the European Union.

“No matter how strange decisions are made under US pressure, as was the case in the recent US-German negotiations, they are not able to change the objective reality of the construction of this large-scale project on the home stretch,” Zakharova emphasized.
