OREANDA-NEWS. A spokeswoman of Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova said that the policy of Western countries, especially the United States, provoked a new worsening of tension in the Middle East.

According to her, the policy of Western states in the region was “very strange and short-sighted.” The diplomat noted that the escalation was the result of a complex of events, and stated that the presence of the US military in the region was one of the problems. “I would like to ask a question regarding the strategy and tactics of deploying the armed forces of one state on the territory of sovereign states of a completely different region,” Zakharova said on the air of Ekho Moskvy radio station. In her opinion, Iran attacked US bases in Iraq because of Washington’s actions. She noted that Washington excluded itself from the international legal system, which does not lead to a solution of the problem.
