OREANDA-NEWS. Governor of the Khabarovsk Krai (Russia), Sergey Furgal, was detained on suspicion of organizing murders.

On July 9, the Investigative Committee of Russia announced his detention. The case in which Furgal was detained concerns a criminal group involved in organizing and committing a number of serious crimes against the life and health of entrepreneurs in 2004–2005 in the Khabarovsk Krai and Amur Region. There is no official information about victims.

Earlier, four people in this case were detained. Their testimony formed the basis of initiating the criminal case against Furgal. He is charged with articles of the Criminal Code of Russia connected with murder and attempted crimes. If Furgal is considered guilty, he may be sentenced to life imprisonment.

It is known that the Investigative Committee checks the detainee for involvement in other serious crimes.
