OREANDA-NEWS. Vladimir Zhirinovsky, a leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, proposed abolishing the Federation Council, the upper house of the national parliament.

According to the deputy of the lower chamber, the upper one is an excess body. The politician emphasized that nowadays there are too many “unnecessary deputies and officials” in Russia.

“It is necessary to halve the apparatus of officials and the number of deputies in parliaments of all levels. […] The possibility of liquidating the Federation Council is also worth discussing,” Zhirinovsky wrote on his Twitter page.

The representatives of the party’s press service explained the proposal of its leader by the fact that in the traditional parliamentary structure the upper house represents the aristocracy, and it is a censor over the lower chamber represented by people. In Russia, there is no aristocracy in the current historical realities, as it is in monarchical Britain or Spain, they said.
