OREANDA-NEWS. Serbian Minister of Defense, Aleksandar Vulin, stated that the riots of the past two days are nothing but an attempt to seize power and provoke a civil war.

“We have terrible violence in the streets, we have an attempt at a coup d’etat, we have an attempt to seize power by force and provoke a civil war in Serbia. This cannot be described and explained otherwise. There is no reason to set fire to the parliament, set fire to the city hall in Novi Sad, attack the police, and beat people in the streets,” the press service of the Ministry of Defense quotes him.

According to Vulin, now political stability and security are under threat. The Minister considers that the protests were not random, but coordinated and carefully prepared. “The point of all this is to overthrow the government, do it through violence, and carry out a coup. As a citizen of this country, I am interested in establishing the rule of law, and that anyone who raises a hand against a police officer or endangers someone’s life, property, safety, is held accountable,” Vulin resumed.

Unrest in Serbia began on July 7, after President Aleksandar Vucic announced the introduction of curfew due to the worsening situation with coronavirus infection.
